Christopher's Logic about Sea Animals

Last week's theme at Playgroup was "Animals under the Sea".  Christopher was very excited to take each and every under-the-water-animal-toy that he could gather with to school.  As I saw the pile of toys at the front door growing, I swiftly proceeded with negotiation efforts to reduce the amount to a reasonable limit as not to overload the car.

Me: "Christopher, why don't you take your toy-Seal & Shark-book with, and Sophia can take Nemo & the Penguin?"
After deliberating the proposal for at least two minutes whilst pacing back and forth, Christopher announced and also concluded: "Sophia take Nemo and Penguin.  I take Scoob (the Seal, named after Scooby-Dooby-Doo) and Doggy."
Me: "OK Chris, but why are you taking your Doggy? he doesn't live under the sea?"
Christopher:"No, but he's a REALLY good swimmer Mommy!"

Can't argue with that, now can you :)

Here's a picture of the "Doggy" with Christopher helping Dad mow the lawn
(the Helmet is logically a protective device against flying grass from the mower, ingeniously thought of by Chris himself)

The wheels on the bike go round and round...

One day, quite recently - when I wasn't looking - my little baby boy grew up.  He put on his brave face and helmet, confidently climbed onto his brand new bicycle, complete with flag and carrier, and set off into the big wide world.

Well, actually it was just up and down our driveway and on the road in from of our house; but that's what it felt like, to me anyway, riding off into the sunset on his own.  He was in that moment, a "big boy", although it shouldn't have surprised me considering the amount of times he reminds me of this point daily.

Of course, Sophia was just as proud of him and her new helmet too! But admittedly, she did get a bit bored of the whole exercise after a while and decided to chase after guinea fowl to feed them, and then spotted the next door neighbours' puppy. Game over!

Enjoy the video montage & look out for the sense of accomplishment on Christopher's face for getting it right - not without some tumbles of course!

still testing the waters
spot the little helper at the back also pushing
one of many wipe outs!
little princess - quite confident on three wheels!
whoop whoop! so proud of him
another fall
and another...
getting back on the bike every time
a bit of a pep talk
and we're off riding again!

My heart swells with pride every time I look at these pics!
Thanks to Mommy & Matty for the bicycle and accessories, and to my brother Stephan, for bringing it back from Germany and putting it together for one excited little boy.

On the past public holiday, we made our way to Serenity Equestrian Lifestyle Centre (quite a mouthful) for their Alice in Wonderland themed Show Jumping Event.

Christopher represented his riding school Green Acres in the 1st Class Pole on the Ground event... sooooo exciting! (spot the proud mommy)
What a beautiful setting, great event and all round wonderful way to spend a stunning morning:

Nap Time

Repost from my old blog at WordPress:

I love nap time!

It’s a space and place where everything calms down for a bit and I get to hit the reboot button.  When first becoming a mom, I spent much of my time trying to coordinate nap schedules:
Get Christopher to nap so I can nap/Get Christopher to nap so I can work/Get Christopher to nap so I can clean
Then Sophia was born:
Get Christopher to nap so I can feed Sophia/Get Sophia to nap so I can spend time with Christopher… then the difficult one… Get both of them to nap at the same time, so i can regain some sanity!  I had it down to a fine art, both of them would take a nap after lunch (well actually the “fine art” is me driving them around in the car until they fall asleep).
Then, quite recently, Christopher decided he didn’t need naps anymore… eeeeek! “Mommy, I a big boy now, I no need sleep”.  I still get him to take a nap on some days depending on what he did during the morning or if he’s ill, but soon I’ll have to make peace with no more naps… and a lot more entertaining to do (more on that in another post)
Some memories of my napping angels:
